
On Saturday August 30, 2014, Prentiss County Deputies and Mississippi Highway Patrol Officers were investigating a reported theft and pursuit from Alcorn County the previous night, when they spotted the suspect driving the vehicle in question. Officers attempted to stop the driver who fled south of Booneville to an area on County Road 5240, where the suspect abandoned the truck and fled into the woods. Track dogs from Itawamba County were called into assist with the search. Deputies and MHP Officers seached for several hours tracking the suspect and eventually losing the track and scent due to severe weather conditions. Just prior to dark the suspect appeared on County Road 5091. Officers searched the area for hours, unsuccessfully locating the suspect. Eventually we recieved a report of another stolen vehicle from the area near where he was last seen. Later that night Alcorn County Deputies and MHP Officers located the stolen vehicle. The driver refused to stop, but traveling at very slow speeds. He eventually locked the truck into four wheel drive and became stuck. He once again fled into the woods. Officers arrested the suspect Sunday Afternoon after he flagged a motorist down for a ride. He remains in the Alcorn County Jail. The suspect is identified as David M Carnell 33 of Booneville. He is being charged with Feloning Fleeing and Grand Larceny in Prentiss County.
