Prentiss County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a burglary in progress around 4:21am this past Thursday morning. The call came from a CR 1390 resident. Deputies Aaron Stolz and Wesley Graves responded. When Deputies arrived they noticed a small dark colored automobile backing out of the carport. Deputies activated their lights and attempted to prevent the suspect from leaving the driveway. The suspect almost rammed one of the Patrol vehicles as the suspect exited the driveway. The Deputies pursued the suspect vehicle a short distance East on CR 1390 when the suspect wrecked and was apprehended. The suspect is identified as Kelly Michelle Nichols 35 of Booneville. Nichols was charged with Attempted Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling and Simple Assault on an Officer as well as several misdemeanor traffic offenses. Her bond was set at $10,000 on the felony and $6,000 on all the misdemeanors. At the time of her arrest she was wearing a single glove, with the other found in the automobile as well as a bandana around her neck. Investigating Officers discovered that the suspect had allegedly broken a window pane out of an entrance door from the carport into the house. The resident reportedly fired two shots through the door moments before the Deputies arrived. Nichols remains in jail at this time. Investigators Torie Jumper and Brian Taylor are working the case.
