Booneville Men arrested on Seperate Felon Drug Charges

On Sunday January 14, Deputy Taylor Walker initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of County Road 5011 and CR 5012.  The driver backed into a nearby driveway and quickly exited the vehicle and approached the house.  After confronting the driver, Michael Brandon Palmer 32 of Booneville and passenger, Deputy Walker noticed what appeared to be a plastic baggie protruding out of the drivers pocket.  When the driver realized the Deputy had noticed the bag he attempted to put it in his mouth.  The deputy attempted to restrain the suspect as He threw the bag away in an effort to dispose of it.  After a brief struggle Palmer fled on foot with one handcuff on.  Walker lost site of Palmer and returned to the passenger and secured him and also retrieved the plastic baggie that contained a substance that was believed to be Crystal Methamphetamine.  Deputies Rusty Burroughs, Deputy Phillip Owens and Narcotics Officer Grady Smith came to assist Walker along with Booneville Police Officer Josh Walden and Rusty McCoy.  Palmer was located hiding in the Attic of a nearby house.  Both Palmer and the Passenger was transported to Prentiss County Justice Center.  Palmer was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance (Meth) and bond was set at $10,000.  He was also charged with multiple traffic violations and misdemeanors with a bond totaling $4,500.  Palmer remains in custody with a hold for the Mississippi Department of Corrections. The passenger, Barik Lee Williams 29 of Tupelo had an outstanding felony warrant from Pontotoc.
A search warrant was executed at Palmer's residence where Deputies and Agents recovered additional evidence.  In addition to the Controlled substance Officers seized $486.00 cash.

On Saturday January 13, Deputy Taylor Walker responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle stopped in the road for an extended period of time on CR 5031.  Before the Deputy arrived at the location the caller called back and reported that the vehicle had left.  Walker remained in the area spotting a vehicle such as was described by the caller sitting in the street on Jones Cove Road near the intersection of CR 5031.  Deputy Walker approached the vehicle that didn't have a license plate and identified the Driver as Russell Lee Hyde 33 of Booneville, who had multiple active warrants.  Hyde was placed under arrest.  Deputy Walker discovered that Hyde was possessing a substance believed to be Crystal Methamphetamine.  Hyde was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance(Meth) and Possession of Paraphernalia and served with the two Warrants.  His bond was set at $5,000 on the felony and $1,000 on the misdemeanor charges.  Hyde remains in custody.
