
On Friday 02/23 Prentiss County Deputy Taylor Walker arrested Michael Bass 42 of Jackson Tn after he came through a Roadside Safety Checkpoint at the intersection of County Road 7461 and CR 7371. Bass was the driver of a vehicle with Alcorn County plates. Chief Deputy Derrick Pruitt made the initial contact with Bass and when he determined that Bass had no License Deputy Walk took over the investigation. It was determined that Bass was wanted by the Department of Corrections. Bass was placed under arrest for both the MDOC warrant and Suspended Drivers License and No Proof of Insurance. Deputy Walker discovered evidence in the automobile of Control Substance Violations, then observed Bass trying to swallow something. With the assistance of Investigator Wesley Graves the pair retrieved a clear plastic bag containing Methamphetamine. After being processed Bass was transferred to Alcorn County for the MDOC hold and a hold was placed on him for the Prentiss County Felony Drug Charges. He was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) and his bond was set at $20,000. The passenger in the car was allowed to leave in the vehicle that belonged to her. Deputies Gunter Brumley and Jason Cinicola were also manning the safety checkpoint and assisted with the arrest. Narcotics Investigator Grady Smith is handling the Narcotics Investigation and will prepare and present the case to the next Grand Jury.
Also on Friday 02/23 the culmination of an extended undercover investigation ended with the arrest of Jimmy Dewayne Nanney 50 of CR 8021 Rienzi, He was arrested at his residence on charges of two counts of Sale of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine). When he was arrested, Narcotics Investigators discovered that Nanney had approx.a 1/2 oz of Methamphetamine in his pocket and after receiving consent to search his residence discovered approx. half ounce of marijuana in his bedroom. Nanney faces two Counts Sale of Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) and Possession of Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine). His bond was set at $30,000 but is being held without bond due to the fact that he was out on bond on already indicted drug charges. Narcotics Investigator Joey Clark is the lead investigator on this case and was assisted by Agent Grady Smith and Booneville Narcotics Agent James Page along with North Ms Narcotics. Agent Smith is handling the new charge while both Agents Smith and Clark worked the undercover case. These cases will be presented to the next Grand Jury.
