Couple Charged with Child Endangerment

On March 14th, 2018 Deputy Taylor Walker was on routine patrol on
Highway 4 East. Deputy Walker noticed  a vehicle turn around in a
driveway. Deputy Walker followed the vehicle which turned on County
Road 5091. The vehicle did not have a tag and was all over the
roadway. Deputy Walker ititated a traffic stop on the vehicle by
activating his blue lights. The vehicle failed to stop and continued
south on County Road 5091, later pulling into a driveway and stopping.
After exiting his patrol vehicle Deputy Walker could smell a strong
smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The traffic stop resulted
in two subjects taken into custody.
Marice Quencha Sykes (23) of Stephen Street Tupelo MS was charged with
one count of child abuse, which resulted because of a two year old
unrestrained  child being present of a controlled substance and
possession of a firearm by a felon. Sykes plead guilty to a robbery
charge in Lee County in 2017. Judge Richard Tollison set his bond at
$10,000.00 on the two felony charges. Sykes also receved several
traffic citations from Deputy Walker.
Also in the vehicle was the childs mother Tashaundria Patrice Brown
(26) of Belden MS. Brown is also charged with one count of child abuse
and her bond was set at $5,000.00.
